PALLIATIVE CARE

Palliative care was pioneered in Montreal, Canada in 1987.  Palliative care concentrates on reducing the severity of symptoms of life-limiting diseases by treating pain and relieving suffering.  Even if a patient’s disease is still responsive to treatment, palliative care continues in conjunction with other therapies that are intended to prolong life.

Symptom Medicine’s goal is to improve the quality of patients’ life.  Our clinic coordinates complex medical care for patients as they contend with the physical symptoms and psychological challenges connected with chronic illness and pain.  Examples of patients  with end stage chronic disease who require pain and symptom management:

•Cancer

•Chronic Pain

•Stroke

•HIV-AIDS

•Alzheimer’s Disease

•Chronic  Liver Disease

•Parkinson’s Disease

•Chronic Lung Disease

•Chronic Cardiac Disease

•Chronic Renal Disease
